Note From The Editor
As everyone can see, I have created this website to commemorate my Father and
"Lifetime Citizen of Lathrop", Thomas G. Williams. Dad was a very proud member of
the Lathrop Community and always willing to pitch in if something needed to be
done. He spent numerous hours at his computer creating everything from Cemetery
Diagrams and Historical Entries to Friendship Festival Schedules and American
Legion BBQ Menus. At the ripe age of 81, he knew more about the computer than
most of the people I work with! In fact, he bought me my first computer and was
greatly responsible for the knowledge and skills that I have today.
Shortly before his passing, I had asked him about the possibility of creating
a website for The Lathrop Cemetery Association with a searchable database. He
was very excited about the idea and we began to formulate a plan of action.
Shortly thereafter, he became ill and went to the hospital for his final visit.
In his memory, I decided to expand on the idea and create a site not only for
the cemetery, but for the City of Lathrop. Due to the fact that I live in
Olathe, KS, it is difficult for me to keep up with the current affairs in the
City of Lathrop. For this reason, I have decided to develop this site more
toward the historical and archival side of the City. I have also been in touch
with Brian Bullock who has also developed a website for the city at www.LathropMoOnline.com. His site has
a lot of current information about the city, schools, churches, businesses and
upcoming events. Since it would be pointless to duplicate information, we both
concurred that the two sites working together and sharing information is a great
plan of action. There will be a link from here to Brian’s site and vice
versa.
Luckily, Dad saved a lot of historical articles, photos and memorabilia about
the city. However, I need more. If you have any historical data, articles,
photos and etc. about the city that you are willing to share, please contact me.
I don’t need to keep your items, I simply need to create a digital image of
them. I realize that a lot of historical items are keepsakes and have
sentimental value to their keepers. For this reason, I would also be willing to
come to you. I can create the digital images I need and the items will never
leave your sight.
Sincerely,
